Revenue-generating designs & ideas for brand, print, online media and advertising.
Monthly digress
A collection of my interests, thoughts, findings and pursuits.
My world is square, not round.
The digital camera has made me lazy. It compensates for my inexperience and amateur approach. Yet I expect great images everytime, because it's digital. So of late I have immersed myself in medium format photography – 120 negative film to be precise, using a plastic Holga. I've become so passionate about the quality of the film and the fact that I now know how to use aperture, distant and exposure more accurately, that I've even done some serious purchasing of twin-lens cameras, the kind of camera that would have cost 1000's of pounds pre-digital age, and which can now be purchased for under £200 (in my case a Mamiya C3 with an 80mm lens for £100 on the nose!). Have a look at what I have been up to on my Flickr and DeviantART page - nothing too adventurous at the moment but, should you fancy having a dabble yourself, visit the Holga link below or buy one secondhand off ebay!

Flex your mental muscle!
BootB is a great opportunity for Brand Builders and Creative Brains to engage on some very interesting projects from product brand designs to advertising campaigns. For any creative, it's a great opportunity to keep the brains exercised whilst advertising campaigns are currently off the marketing menu for most businesses at present. The execution below was my pitch against 80+ other BootB members to create an awareness campaign for the world's first 1,5 litre bio-degradeable bottle, used by an Italian spring water company - Sant'Anna. Unfortunately my ideas weren't chosen but I enjoyed the exercise and the hope of earning €4,000, had I indeed won it! http://www.bootb.com/

Writing for children isn't easy, but the battle to get my idea working is an interesting journey
I'm currently working on five children's picture stories, and am currently rewriting and re-working the illustrations for the most progressed story to date involving three little hunters... can't say more than that for now. References for story telling and visual styling include Eric Carle, Maurice Sendak, Oliver Jeffers and the 'Mr Benn' TV episodes from the very early 70s.

The cultural revolution that didn't happen
Originally this route was chosen to be the campaign idea for the 'revolutionary thinkers' for mortgagesplc. Unfortunately, after an illustrator had created several images for the advertising campaign, it was deemed too 'commie' for Merrill Lynch! A shame they couldn't see this as a useful and engaging metaphor for leading the way forward in non-conforming lending.

Agency newsletter
Whilst employed at Cchmping (now Tangible Financial) I came up with the magazine design & style for the agency newsletter. Consequently I remained the art director, illustrator and designer on this magazine for 2 years. It was a pleasure to work on as I was able to set my own briefs and engage in creating poignant illustrations for the various engaging articles, incorporating irony, humour and cynisicm. Sometimes its just great to work away from the computer and use a brush and paint. Remember?

One torch, one tripod and a Canon digital camera
Okay, well at least I did this idea two months before Npower used it for their save energy in the home campaign. These series of images were created as a route for an educational provider that required a series of brochures for various studies within a qualification level, to reflect a degree of inspiration. You'll find a lot better examples on Flickr and other popular image sites, but it was a fun, cold winter evening experiment.
